The Master of G collection is a series of Casio G-Shock watches produced in the late 1990's, and a favorite series among collectors. These emerged as specialty watches, meant to showcase several new features that Casio had added to their watches, such as the solar powered battery charger and digital compass technology. There are twelve models in the collection, four of which are still being made today.

Mudman
Casio launched the collection with the DW-5500C. It looked basically the same as the classic G-Shock, but featured a softer bezel that slipped over the buttons, creating a mud-resistant watch. Hence, this model became known as Mudman. The controls are sealed so that dirt and dust can't get inside the watch and destroy its function.

Frogman
This model came out not long after the Mudman, and has remained one of the most popular G-Shock watches to date. It was created especially for divers. It was heavier, and had a unique asymmetrical design made of thick rubber that could take you down to 200 meters underwater. The very first Frogman was released in November of 1993, an the model number was DW-6300. It featured a titanium screw-back case, thick strap and a dive timer. Since then, Casio has made very high-end Frogman watches, and released very limited edition colors that have become very hard to find, and therefore very valuable among collectors.

Riseman
The Riseman was designed with climbers in mind, though it became and remains a very popular model even for people who prefer to keep their feet on the ground. It contains a three-layer structured twin sensor that measures temperature, barometric pressure, and altitude. The first Riseman appeared in 1997, but the model was discontinued for awhile and then revived with the GW-9200.

Gulfman
The Casio Gulfman GW-9100 came on the scene in the summer of 2007, and was designed for people who engaged in water sports. It featured a titanium case and screw pins that banded the joint completely, so the whole watch was water and rust resistant. It also had a better shock resistance than some other models, and a unique deep waved band that prevented a too tight fit around a wet wrist.

Most of Casio's Master of G series watches are larger and have a steel case surrounded by thick polyurethane or neoprene outer protection. The newer models are all water resistant up to 200 meters. Every model also includes the features that made the Casio G-Shock watches famous...they are extremely tough and durable, keep precise time, and use Solar Tough technology.

Most of the Masters of G series are no longer in production, and so have acquired a high value among collectors. If they are limited edition, the value skyrockets. One of the most sought models is the Brazilian Frogman, and among color variations the Men In Black and Men In Yellow Masters are extremely popular.

Casio G-Shock watches are among the best watches in the world, but the Masters of G collection contains some of the best of the best...and if you're thinking of collecting, it's a good place to start.
