  • There are several reasons I enjoy this model:
    1. Sits flat on the wrist. No extra bulk.
    2. Latest Casio technology, solar and atomic time.
    3. Reasonable price.
    4. Retro appearance.
    5. Useful features like the countdown timer (one hr lunch or meters), world time for travellers, alarm, etc.
    6. Power saving feature to prevent over use of the solar battery.

The one thing I do not like is the fidgity atomic time signal device. I have attempted to set the time via the atomic signal several times without success. Maybe I am incorrectly positioning the watch? Not sure.

If you do not want all the extras that this watch provides, the DW 5600e model would do the trick.

  • I had an early model of this watch (non-atomic, non-solar) that I picked up in Japan in the early 80's. It lasted over 20 years. So far, this one appears to be of the same quality. I love it.

  • This is my second Casio solar atomic watch. The first one I returned within days when I bought this one. It was all metal. The band was so uncomfortable that it was almost painful to wear. It was also too big and heavy. I wanted a watch that shows the day, date, and time. The atomic and solar features seemed interesting.

I am very impressed with the atomic part. I live on the east coast and it synchronizes every night on my wrist in bed asleep at either the first or second set time (12 midnight and 1 AM ET). It is nice to know that my watch is always accurate to the second and that it will automatically adjust for daylight savings time. I have not had it long enough to comment on the solar aspect. I hope it gets enough light to keep it charged.

    COMPARISON WITH MY OLD WATCH

My old watch was a Timex of very similar design except it did not have the atomic or solar features and only had a plastic watch face which easily scratched. It was smaller, lighter, and had a leather band.

    PROS OF CASIO
    - atomic feature
    - solar (?)
    - mineral face

    CONS OF CASIO
    - smaller size of digits make it harder to see
    - size, weight, and plastic band make it less comfortable

It took me several days to weigh these to decide which I wanted to wear. Casio won out. The atomic part was most important because I like always having accurate time to the second. The solar feature and mineral face should make the watch much longer lasting and keep it looking better for much longer. I do miss the larger digits and comfort of my old watch.
